This month, I thought I’d share a few personal recommendations for anyone looking to get involved in singing, whether you’re a seasoned performer or someone just starting to explore their vocal range.
If you’ve been thinking about working on your voice, I cannot recommend my friend Georgie enough. I took singing lessons with her myself and noticed firsthand her genuine passion and dedication to the craft.
Georgie’s an incredibly talented musical director, a skill she proves time and again whilst leading her groups. If you’re seeking a teacher who possesses a full understanding of the mechanics of harmony and timing, Georgie is an awesome choice to help you develop your singing.
Over the past two weekends, I had the pleasure of attending two concerts that Georgie directed. I witnessed the impressive nature as she commanded a group of over twenty singers for the Loughborough Male Voice Choir. They sang a range of songs – including a rendition of Tears in Heaven, I Can’t Help Falling In Love With You and the Anvil Chorus – which was my personal favourite!
During each concert, Georgie has demonstrated a remarkable ability to conduct a massive group of singers, ensuring the harmonies and timing. In fact, at the end of each concert, I saw how well she conducted more than one choir – towards the end of last weekend’s concert, Georgie conducted both her choir and the Rock Choir.
Speaking of which, the Rock Choir, managed by a lady named Sarah, is another choir I’d recommend for anybody looking to join and sing. They performed at the same concert as the Male Voice Choir and sang a varied range of songs, including “Sweet Child Of Mine” and Roy Orbison’s “You Got It”, with great energy. I was even impressed with how Sarah directed nearly 100 singers! Seriously, the stage was nearly full when the singers came on before their first performance.
If you’re ready to start your own musical journey, here is where you can find more information about these fantastic local groups:

NB. Of course, as the name suggests, the Loughborough Male Voice Choir is open to male singers.
Whether you choose to take private lessons to master your skills or join a choir to make new friends and create beautiful music, Leicestershire has some wonderful opportunities waiting for you. Happy singing!
